“Liebherr” mobile crane, exclusive to the Baltic States, has arrived at our terminal. The first of two cranes manufactured in Germany has been ordered and the second is due to arrive at the terminal in spring 2023.

The new mobile crane is unique in its capacity, with a lifting capacity of 154 t and a boom length of 54 m. It is the first of its kind in the Baltic States.

As Vaidotas Šileika, our terminal manager, says, we are consistently pursuing our business strategy and acquiring more and more powerful equipment equipped with modern technologies, which will make the unloading and loading processes at the container terminal even more efficient. V.Šileika points out that with the arrival of the second crane, it will be possible to load cargo with a capacity of 300 tones at a time.

According to Šileika, the mobile crane is designed to load heavy, oversized and bulk cargo and containers. Currently, the terminal can handle loads weighing up to 200 tones at a time. However, with the arrival of a second Liebherr crane, the terminal will be operating one of the most powerful machines in the Baltics, increasing its competitive advantage.

For bulk cargo, Liebherr's advanced technology will help ensure short and productive work cycles, allowing the terminal to handle up to 1,500 tons of bulk cargo in one hour, says KKT's CEO.

The equipment will also contribute to another of the company's objectives: reducing environmental pollution. Although the cranes are equipped with hybrid engines and can be powered by either electricity or diesel, the company's ambition is to operate in an energy-efficient mode - electricity.

KKT is a member of the Klaipeda Terminal Group, a group of companies providing cargo handling, logistics, freight forwarding and ship agency services.  KKT's general cargo handling is growing steadily. Comparing the results for the first 11 months of last year with the same period in 2022, the cargo throughput increased by 23%, with 803,459 tones of general cargo handled.
