2023 - the year of records

Traditionally, at the end of the year, we take stock of the highlights of our container terminal operations.

At the end of last year, Edvinas Juodis, the head of our Container Terminal, wished everyone a year of peace in 2023, and in a way his wish came true.

"Compared to 2022, which was an exceptional year in geopolitical terms, it was a quieter year for the container terminal, although it was marked by a number of exceptional records," the Container Terminal Manager sums up 2023 in one sentence.

We started setting records in May, when we handled a historic 43,967 TEUs, the highest ever volume of containers in a single month. This was followed by a record-breaking one-month total tonnage of 613,600 tonnes of various cargoes. Also this year, for the first time, we welcomed a container vessel of record size at the terminal - 260 metres.

"Every year we set higher and higher performance targets, and our outstanding achievements are proof of the terminal's responsible, flexible and efficient operation. High performance can only be achieved with a team that works like clockwork, is able to manage multifaceted handling processes, communicate professionally with each other and meet the expectations of our customers," shares E.Juodis.

According to Edvinas, this year's loading of wind turbines stood out, as the dimensions of the parts of these installations are getting bigger and heavier every year, and the requirements for their overloading are getting stricter. Such challenges encourage us to continuously improve and look for even more efficient.
