Q1 2024 cargo handling performance is positive

In the first quarter of 2024, we grew our terminal cargo volumes by 16.5% to 1.67 million tones, compared to 1.43 million tones in the same period of 2023.

In January-March, our terminal handled more than 139,000 TEUs of containers, an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2023. "Analyzing the container handling statistics, we are seeing a consistent increase in the transit flow of containers loaded with cars to Ukraine," says Vaidotas Šileika, our CEO, sharing his insights.

According to V.Šileika, the increase in the first quarter of this year is also due to the increased cargo handling of general cargo and Ro-Ro cargo. The Ro-Ro cargo volume grew by almost 35 per cent to 230 thousand tones, while in 2023 the cargo volume amounted to 170 thousand tones. "The positive Ro-Ro cargo flows are driven by the recovering Scandinavian market economy, especially Sweden, and it is natural that Lithuania's export flows are increasing in this direction," the CEO said.

During the first quarter, we handled 292 vessels at KCT terminals. "Due to the reconstructed berths and increased depths, we are able to accommodate larger vessels with higher cargo tonnage. We are seeing that this year wind turbine parts are arriving in larger batches than last year," notes Šileika.
