We became the leader in the Port of Klaipėda in volume of cargo handling!

Another historic event in our terminal's activities history. In 2023, we handled a record 6.27 million tonnes of various cargoes.

According to Vaidotas Šileika, General Manager of our terminal, we can safely say that we are unique in the region because we offer a wide range of cargo handling services to our customers, who we see appreciating the quality of our services more and more each year and transporting more and more different types of cargoes through our terminal.

In 2023 we have achieved the following results:

  • We handled 6.27 million tonnes of cargo, 7.17% more than in 2022, when we handled 5.8 million tonnes;

  • We handled 494,062 TEUs of containers, which is 15.5% more than in 2022;

  • Ro-Ro cargo volumes amounted to 776,000 tonnes, an increase of 19% compared to 2022;

  • We handled 1,207 freighters, 3% more than in 2022.

Over the past year, we have consistently expanded the terminal and invested around €20 million in operational processes, infrastructure improvements and new handling equipment. This year, the most powerful Liebherr cranes in the Baltics have arrived at our terminal, with which we can handle up to 300 tonnes of cargo at a time, and we have renewed our fleet of harbour tugs and purchased 4 new units of this equipment. The new equipment helps to achieve another of the company's objectives - to reduce environmental pollution. Although Liebherr cranes are hybrid engines and can be powered by both electricity and diesel, the company's ambition is to operate in the most energy-efficient mode - electricity.

"We have applied modern and energy-efficient solutions at the container terminal and modernized the lighting system. We have also started the installation of an automated gate system, which will be the first fully automated access project in the Port of Klaipėda," says Šileika about the 2023 investments.

At the end of the year, we installed a 500 kW solar power plant on the roofs of the warehouses in both the container terminal and the Ro-Ro and general cargo terminal, and we are supplying ourselves with electricity from renewable sources and are actively developing our team to join in the work of environmental protection.

For the fifth year in a row, we have been ranked in the top 15% of the strongest companies in Lithuania. This ranking reflects our company's positive economic situation and financial performance, as well as our contribution to the development of the Lithuanian economy and fair business culture.

"I would like to thank the KCT team for their professionalism, focus and continuous growth. I wish that 2024 will be a memorable year, not just for another year, but for meaningful deeds," says V. Šileika with gratitude.
