The overall result was most significantly affected by a slight decline in container handling. During the first half of this year, we handled 242,434 TEU at the terminal - about 3 percent less than a year ago.

“The decline in transit cargo flows had the greatest impact on container handling volumes. This was influenced by geopolitical factors and changing logistics routes in the region due to sanctions. At the same time, we see that Lithuanian business cargo flows remain stable, so the main change is related specifically to transit, rather than activity in the local market,” says our CEO, Vaidotas Šileika.

Despite lower container handling volumes, we maintained stable Ro-Ro cargo handling volumes. During the first half of the year, we handled nearly 690,000 tons of Ro-Ro cargo—practically the same amount as during the same period last year.

We recorded the most significant growth in the general cargo segment. Over the six-month period, we handled more than 423,000 tons of general cargo - a full 17 percent more than a year ago.

“The results for general cargo demonstrate our ability to adapt to a changing market. Although we have less of certain project cargo this year, such as wind turbines, we are offsetting this change with new cargo types and a broader range of cargo,” says V. Šileika.
 

During the first half of 2026, KCT handled 534 ships - about 5 percent fewer than a year ago. According to V. Šileika, changes in the number of ships reflect general market trends, but the terminal’s operational efficiency and the quality of services provided to customers remain among our top priorities.

In assessing the second half of this year, the terminal’s director remains cautiously optimistic. “Historically, the second half of the year tends to be busier. We expect higher cargo volumes due to seasonality, growing agricultural exports, and increasing fertilizer imports. We will strive to ensure that the results of the second half of the year offset the fluctuations of the first six months and allow us to achieve the operational goals set for this year,” says V. Šileika.
