Testing an electric forklift

At our general cargo and Ro-Ro terminal, we are testing the electric-powered "Volvo L120" front-end loader, designed for handling bulk materials such as wood chips, fertilizers, and agricultural products.

“Sustainable business solutions must not only be environmentally friendly but also economically viable. This trial allows us to assess, under real-world operating conditions, whether electric equipment can already serve as a reliable alternative for our terminal’s operations and represent one of our future investment directions,” says Vaidotas Šileika, our terminal manager.

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • up to 9 hours of operation on a single charge;

  • just 1.5 hours to a full charge;

  • up to 6 metric tons of handling capacity with a bucket.

We currently operate five diesel-powered front-end loaders at the terminal, so our evaluation of this alternative is not theoretical but practical—we’re analyzing productivity, operating costs, operational reliability, and the potential impact on operational efficiency.
