General cargoes drive cargo growth

DJI_0597.jpg

In the first nine months of this year, KKT terminals have increased their general cargo volumes by 30% to 683 thousand tones. However, in total, the terminals handled 4.3 million tons of various cargoes in Q3, down by 3% compared to the same period last year.

According to Vaidotas Šileika, the terminal manager, at the beginning of the year we saw a tendency for the general cargo segment to grow, and this has been confirmed and we have maintained the growth for all nine months of the year. Therefore, looking at the other cargo indicators, which were minimally down, we are pleased with the results.

Since the beginning of the year, KKT has handled 311 thousand TEUs, with a 5% decrease in turnover compared to 2021, and Ro-Ro volumes amounted to 484 thousand tones, an 11% decrease compared to the same period last year.

According to Mr Šileika, the consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine - the imposition of international sanctions - are still influencing cargo volumes, as this has had a major impact on containerized cargo. Despite the decrease in cargo volumes, we are increasing the number of employees in the organization, which currently stands at 260. Looking ahead, we are constantly looking for solutions and alternatives to attract new cargo and ensure the smooth operation of the terminals.
