Last year’s volumes exceeded
In spite of rather pessimistic forecasts in the beginning of the year, especially in container market deeply affected by global economic downturn and COVID19-related problems in Asian ports, already in the end of Q1 we managed to restore the cargo throughput to pre-pandemic level of Q1 2020. The second quarter of the year turned out even more successful.
Total cargo volume reloaded at KKT terminals in January – June amounted to 2.9 million tons. Container handling in TEUs 213 478 TEU) was above H1 2020 (208 802 TEU), however, the volume of containerized cargo counted in tons is still a little below last year‘s level.
Volumes of conventional cargo handled since the beginning of the year exceed H1 2020 by 29% and totalled to 326 836 tons. Throughput of all the main commodities was well above las year’s volumes: grain +22%, timber +74%, fertilizers + 12%.
Contribution of ro-ro cargo to general KCT throughput has been also increasing, this year TT-Line ferries transport about 3,500 ro-ro units and above 4,000 passengers per month on the average.
This year KKT terminals handle 97 vessels per month on the average, a historical record was achieved in May when 108 ships were served. In 2020 the monthly median was 86 ships.
