One more STS crane

Berth productivity will double

On July 5 KCT container terminal welcomed the second new STS delivered by KONECRANES from the factory in Hanko. Two new cranes were acquired under KCT investment programme, the first crane was delivered in the end of April, mounted on the renovated quay and has been successfully working for over a month.

Both cranes arrived fully assembled, KCT crane operators already have some experience in working with the new machine, thus it is expected that commissioning of the second crane will not take long. In the end of July the container terminal will be able to employ all four STS-es in vessel handling.

The new cranes of 65 t capacity and 53 m boom can reach 19 container rows on board. The permitted draft at terminal quay after reconstruction has increased to 13.4 m, so now the terminal is ready to serve Post-Panamax class vessels offering much higher productivity to the shipping lines.

The new electric-powered cranes will also guaranty significant economy of diesel and reduction of CO2 emissions up to 280 t per year. It estimated that general CO2 emissions in sea-to-shore operations will be reduced about 70%, which is in line with KCT target to switch over  to environment-friendly technologies.
